Day 6 Pick: Twins, Baker -140 ~ Pregame

There isn’t much to how I went about picking the Twins and Scott Baker.  As a sports addict, I am, of course, in a couple ESPN Fantasy Baseball leagues.

Thanks to the handy ESPN baseball app, it provides me with a player performance ranking number for the past 5, 15, or 30 days. When I checked pitchers with the best PR15, Baker ranked second behind Jordan Zimmerman .

I was going to go with Zimmerman, but as his owner on “I Want to Dip My Balls in It”, I had a feeling he was doomed just like the rest of my pitchers this week (I was wrong).  Plus, it was an early morning game and I didn’t want to start the day on the wrong foot if my losing streak continued. (Especially since the day was leading to chauffeuring girls to a Britney Spears concert… no, not teenagers, my wife and her friends)

So, instead, I went with Baker.

Baker squares (ha!) off against the Padres, which tends to scare me.  In fact, I usually tend to shy away from betting on or against teams in the same division as my favorites.  They always find a way to screw me.

The more I look at his numbers, the more I'm not really liking this pick.  Baker spun a gem last time out, going the distance with seven Ks.  However, some pitchers have problems after bringing home a CG.  Let's hope this isn't so for Baker

While he also got a win the start before that, it was against Cleveland and he gave up nine hits, making that stat line a little less soothing.

However, I like that the Twins have Mauer back.  I’m hoping he sparks their rancid offense against another offense that is struggling.  San Diego shouldn’t put up more than four runs, even if Baker is wild.  Hopefully, Minnesota will put up at least five.

Even though I said on my tweet early today that “I can practically feel the win”,  I think I’ve lost the feeling…
